The rules of The Commons
Last updated: 10 October 2026
The Commons is a place to hang out, play and have fun. These rules keep it that way for everyone.
1. Be kind
- No being mean, bullying, or ganging up on someone.
- No hate: nothing nasty about someone's skin colour, religion, where they're from, their body, a disability, who they love, or whether they're a boy, a girl or neither.
- No threats, even as a joke.
- If someone asks you to stop, stop.
2. Keep private things private
Never share, and never ask anyone for:
- a real name, address, school or town
- a phone number or email address
- a name on another app, game or social media
- a photo, or what someone looks like
If someone asks you for any of these, or asks to talk to you somewhere outside the game, don't answer. Press Report, and tell a grown-up you trust.
3. Keep it clean
- No swearing at people.
- Nothing rude or sexual.
- Nothing scary, gory or violent.
- Nothing about drugs, alcohol, or anything illegal.
This goes for your chat, your nickname and your drawings.
4. Play fair
- No cheating, hacking, or using programs to play for you.
- No trying to break the game or make it slow for others.
- Found a bug? Tell us with Report → A bug. Don't use it to get ahead.
5. Be yourself
- Don't pretend to be a moderator, or another player.
- Don't share your account or use someone else's.
6. No selling or advertising
Don't advertise things, sell things, or ask people for money or tickets.
7. Drawings
- Draw it yourself. Don't copy someone else's art.
- Don't draw real people, and don't write your name or where you live.
- A moderator looks at every drawing before anyone else can see it.
If something goes wrong
- Mute them. Click the person, then Mute, and pick how long. You won't see what they say.
- Block them. Click the person, then Block. They disappear from your game and you from theirs.
- They aren't told either way, and you can undo both in Settings.
- Press Report. It's always on the screen. You can report someone even after they've left.
- A real person reads every report. We'll tell you in the game once we've looked.
- If you ever feel unsafe or upset, tell a grown-up you trust. You can also talk to Childline, free, any time, on 0800 1111 or at childline.org.uk.
What happens if you break the rules
A moderator decides, depending on what happened:
- A warning: a message telling you what wasn't OK.
- A mute: you're out of chat for a while. You can't say anything, and you won't see what others say.
- A ban: you can't play for a while. For very serious things, or if it keeps happening, the ban can be for good.
If you think we got it wrong, you (or a parent or carer) can email hello@thecommons.lol and we'll look again.
Really serious things, like someone trying to harm a child, are reported to the police or the right organisation.
